Today, the president of Nefes LGBT Azerbaijan Alliance got engaged with his boyfriend, despite the position of the homophobic society. Unfortunately, this happy event turned into a nightmare. Both of their lives are in danger now.
After the president of the organization posted a photo from the engagement ceremony, the information was shared on a number of news portals and TV channels without any permission. Later on, there were bullying attacks on Cavid Nabiyev’s Facebook profile, using a lot of insults and death threats against him.
His photos were shared on media and social networks. In the end, Nabiyev had to deactivate his profile, and now he can’t go out in public because of danger of attack that may occur. Even a few people from his neighborhood threatened him that they would tell everyone and embarrass him. In addition, the other spouse, M.A, was grounded after his parents were informed about the engagement. He is unable to contact the police, because there are concerns over the increase of the hazard in his life. Right now M.A. is not allowed to go anywhere, and is being held by his family. “Do not contact me anymore, it’s over” – are the words that M.A. is likely to have been forced to tell his fiancé.
